Poison is a substance that can cause any disturbances in the normal operation of a body if they are allowed passage. This passage into the body can be of any type. It can be taken from mouth,it can be inhaled or it may even effect any one if touched.
Poisons exist in all three states of matter and and can kill any body if they are taken in enough quantity. Poisonous substance usually have a hazardous sign which everybody is familiar of, so one should take extra car while handling such products and it is rightly warned that these substances are to be kept away from children because you never know what a child may mess up with.
Generally poisons have several classification based on the subject of its study. For example in biology it is distinguished between a toxin and a venom. A venom is a poison associated with a poisonous animal or insect, where as a toxin is a naturally occurring poison.
In chemistry poison refers to any harmful chemical that can cause adverse biological effects in a body if they are allowed passage. For example poisonous chemical gases or liquids.
There are a whole lot of poisons that exist in our homes. You can find poisonous substances mostly in pharmaceutical products or may be in general house hold cleaning agents. So it is necessary that you know which substance is harmful and should be kept at a good safe place.
Generally speaking any thing can be poisonous if taken in a quantity that exceeds our body intake limit. Even food or water can get poisonous if taken in large quantities. But a general question can be thought that what can be the world's deadliest poison?
Well if we talk about toxins than the world's deadliest poison is 'Botulinum'. It is basically a neurotoxin which was produced by scientists as medication in cosmetics. Surprising isn't it? actually Botulinum is used in an anti-wrinkle treatment where certain doses of the toxin are injected at appropriate places to kill cells causing aging wrinkles.
This anti-wrinkle treatment is very popular but of course every thing has it side effects. But speaking about the power of this toxin, it is so deadly that minute doses of it can actually kill the whole population of Earth!!

First, botulinum was not 'produced by scientists'. It is a naturally occuring protein which is excreted by clodistrinum botulinum bacteria, and can be found in some types of contaminated food.
Second, when used for cosmetic procedures, it doesn't kill the cells that cause wrinkles (wrinkles aren't specifically caused by 'cells', but by the wearing of collagen in skin tissue), it temporarily paralyzes underlying muscles so that the skin lying on top will not move, giving the skin after some time a smooth appearance.
