Teleportation

May 5th 2009 16:33

Teleportation means transfer of body from one point to another such that the body makes this transfer at the blink of an eye. The real thing about teleportation which makes it unique is that when a certain body travels the teleported distance, it does so with out the need of any external medium or means of transport.

In other words the body is completely annihilated in to particles and then travels almost at the speed of light. Although what we see in science fiction movies of which Star Trek is the most notable is that a body is teleported much faster than the speed of light. Now as we all know that no matter can travel even equal to the speed of light so theoretically teleportation faster or even equal to the speed of light seems impossible.

However one can apply certain theories on the idea of teleportation remaining with in the laws of physics. Practically teleportation has been achieved by scientist yet this teleportation is only the most basic form of it but again such experiments have opened new areas of development in modern science.

Although teleportation has been achieved, still a large number of people oppose its possibility, not because of some lame reason rather they do so because laws of physics actually oppose some of the things required for teleportation. Yet scientists have been able to tackle these laws and have developed new methods to make teleportation look possible.

Teleportation if developed even in its early phase will aid in the development of quantum computers which are thought to create a revolution in the present century. So scientists are really trying hard to make things possible.

As time passes many areas of technology would have been developed and till then, may be the technology would permit us to teleport matter just like we see in science fiction movies. Till then we can do this teleportation thing in Warcraft

I read an interesting article on this topic... The author was of the opinion that teleportation, per se, was theoretically impossible. However, he did suppose that other methods of approximating teleportation, such as bending space time to connect 2 points (like in Event Horizon, if you've seen it) could be more theoretically feasible.
