Gemstones are one of the most fabulous things when we talk about jewelry. Gold and a variety of other different metals are used in making precious and luxury jewelry but all these items are incomplete without the use of either precious or semi-precious stones.
It is really true that gemstones add to the beauty of jewelry and really make them worth some value. However gemstones alone are also of great value specially precious stones. Like I mentioned in my other posts, precious gemstones usually include diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire.
There are also some people who sometimes include pearl into the classification of precious gemstones. Although pearls are really expensive yet they do not by any means fall into the category of gemstones in the first place.
Here in this post I will mention some of the facts about Ruby. Ruby actually comes from mineral called corundum. One staggering fact is that ruby is also sapphire because sapphires also come from the same corundum mineral.
So we can also call ruby as a red sapphire. The red color imparted to ruby is because of the chromium impurity in the crystalline structure. Ruby’s value is also determined by the conventional 4C method.
But color is the most important price determining factor in case of rubies. Ruby usually comes with silk in this some times gives additional beauty to the stone and some times it is only considered as a simple inclusion.
There are a number if techniques used for the treatment of rubies most common and traditional are oiling methods while a number of modern crack filling techniques are now also in use.
